How to set up a free online Microsoft Office account

Microsoft Office, made up of Word, Excel and Powerpoint, is an industry standard for business office applications. Unfortunately, an account can become pretty expensive very quickly. Especially for people who are trying to learn these programs in order to become proficient for office work, a free online Microsoft Office account is pretty important.

Microsoft does offer a free online version of the Office Suite. They don’t make it very easy to find out how to get one. Here are some step by step instructions to guide you in setting up a free online Microsoft Office account.

Go to https://products.office.com/en-us/office-online/documents-spreadsheets-presentations-office-online

Click on the right-most icon of the person’s head to either log in or create a free Microsoft account.

Once you have done that, return to the create, share and collaborate for free page and click on the orange button Use free at Office.com

You will probably need to log in again.

You may be presented with a window like this, showing that your current plan is the online only free plan that comes with 5 GB of storage.

Close this window by clicking on the X.

You are now in the online free version of the Office Suite.

Make sure you don’t click on Start Trial, Install Office, Buy Office or Change Plan when they pop up now and then.

You can use these programs any time you have online access, on any computer, as long as you log into your free online Microsoft Office account.
